Does it also make you so angry that one cannot find in the shops a ripe avocado? In other words, an avocado one can eat on the very day one buys it.

Well, I have a trick to ripen a non-ripe (hard) avocado quickly.

This is what you do:

Wrap it in newsprint and leave it on the kitchen table or on a shelf – not in your fridge – and it will ripen within 48 hours.

By the way, the avocado for so long having the reputation of being fatty and fattening, has now become one of the fruits one ought to eat regularly. Even one a day. The reason: it is rich in Vitamin E and this is a vitamin essential to protect us against many diseases, including the common cold.

And do you know that the avocado was already eaten 10,000 BC? This we  now know because of avocado pits found in caves in Mexico its country of origin.

You can easily grow your own avocado as a decorative houseplant. This is what you do. Next time you have one of those large pits, having eaten the fruit, stick a match-stick into each side of the pit there where the pit is widest. Next you balance the match-sticks on a small glass or glass container so that that part of the pit below the matchsticks is submerged in water.  Let the glass or container stand in a warmish place indoors, but please not on the radiator, and in about a month the pit will sprout and you will have a cute little plant. Allow it to grow a little taller and then you can plant it in ordinary potting soil.

If you have a garden you can, when it is really warm and sunny, replant your avocado tree out there.

Your tree will also thrive on a terrace.
