Dominique Strauss-Kahn is the name and he was close to having been named the candidate in France’s 2012 presidential election for the political party he supports (Socialist – yes you’ve read that correctly: This millionaire is a Socialist and I just heard Marx turn in his grave!)

DSK, as he has been affectionately called, makes the front page of the popular Paris national, Le Parisien today (Monday, November 14, 2011.)

Once he sought front pages, but today, deeply depressed and disheveled despite that he’s still in his $50,000 suits,  he prefers to dodge paparazzi, so when the French news agency (AFP) photographer snapped him on a Paris street, he looked anything but the man who was going places. He looked like the man who has been to places – and places where he should not have gone to.

Le Parisien’s scoop is that his tolerant wife – Anne Sinclair – is no longer so tolerant. She’s thinking of leaving him unnamed friends of the couple told the paper.  For the first time, apparently, the two have discussed divorce. (It won’t be the first for either of them, so they know the ropes and the right lawyers.)

What has apparently got her was learning that he was a client of a prostitute ring which operated from the posh (and expensive) Hotel Carlton in the northern French city of Lille. The police have voice and text messages between him and those who operated the ring. So, yes, she learned things, and well, they do say that the wife is always the last to know what a husband is up to, don’t they?

According to the paper this particular wife does not want to spend her entire ‘inherited’ fortune on her husband’s legal costs. The papers here in Paris write that Nafissatou Diallo, the New York Sofitel maid, is going to take him for millions in the civil case she has against him. He is meanwhile seeking diplomatic immunity, but no one here in France believes that he will be granted it.  The amount the French are mentioning that Madame Sinclair will have to fork out is $14 million dollars. That’s for Miss Diallo’s damages and the lawyers and court costs.

DSK, meanwhile, sits at home and mopes. He doesn’t shave and no longer applies that silver rinse to his grey hair. And those expensive designer suits hang loose on him.  His friends hardly ever call or go round to his luxury Paris apartment and his party wants to have nothing more to do with him. In those days when he was the golden boy of politics there was a waiting list of Socialist party politicians who wanted to have a meeting with him. The journalists dubbed them the ‘Straus-Kahnians’.

He was though asked to comment on what had happened in the New York Sofitel by journalist Michael Taubmann for a book he is writing and which is coming out on Thursday, December 8. The book’s title is DSK : la contre-enquête, and the publisher is Éditions du Moment. Taubmann is not revealing the book’s contents, but have we not heard all of Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s explanations and excuses – and lies – already?

I for one will not buy this book.
