Amaury Vassili, the world's youngest tenor

This coming Saturday night (May 14, 2011) all of France will be watching television.

It is that time of the year again: Eurovision Song Festival time.

I’ve not watched this annual belting out of dreadful songs for quite a few years, but this Saturday I too will be in front of my television set.

The reason: Amaury Vassili.

This young tenor, born in Normandy on June 8 1989, therefore only 22 years old, has been chosen to represent France in this year’s contest to be held in Germay.

And folks, if you have not heard of him, or heard him, heard him sing that is, then do listen to him sing here.

He is going to win this contest!

If he does not, then it will be because the other 42 competing nations are jealous of him.

He began singing at the age of nine and according to his mother he already had a powerful voice then.

His two albums, Vincero and Cantero have both gone to double platinum.

He sings his Eurovision song, Sognu, in Corsican.

And yes Amaury Vassili is his real name. Born with a tenor’s name, I would say.
