Two French women and 100,000 French cows are making the headlines in France. It’s kind of a good way to start a year … at least it’s not an earthquake or a tsunami or terrorist attack doing so.

The two French ladies are Cécilia Sarkozy, President Sarkozy’s Ex, and Carla Bruni, his new beloved. And the cows … well, the cows do not exist yet …

I’ll speak about the cows first.

France is running out of milk. The reason: France doesn’t have enough cows. Therefore, France needs 100,000 cows, and as it takes three years for a cow to supply milk, these should be found quickly. No laughing matter if you are a baby or love a large bowl of cornflakes in the morning.

Now, about the ladies.

Two books on Cécilia Sarkozy appear in France today: “Ruptures” by Yves Derai and Michaël Darmon, published by Édition du Moment, and “Cécilia. La face cache de l’ex-primière dame”, by Denis Demonpion and Laurent Léger, and published by Éditions Pygmalion, a Flammarion imprint.

The four authors have been giving interviews left, right and center, and from what they are saying the President’s ex-wife was really very well suited for the job as France’s First Lady, although she was in a proper state at the thought of it. Suddenly, she seems a very likeable lady.

As for the Italian-born Carla Bruni, former top-model and singer, it looks as if she may well fill the vacancy. Monsieur Sarkozy said as much at a press conference yesterday (Tuesday, Jan 8). When asked whether he plans to marry Carla, he replied that the deed might well have been done by the time we hear of it. So — voilà!

Now I’m wondering if I am the only one in France who has noticed how the two ladies resemble one another?

May the president, his ex-wife and his new paramour and the 100,000 cows all live long and prosper:-)

And long may that dear little McDonald’s building stand and thrive, despite the incongruity of its current use. Love the pic you put up on OaR!

Wasn’t it nice to have the news filled with mundane things? And may France get the needed cows. I can’t imagine having a milk shortage.

Here’s to more milk in France!

Wasn’t Carla Bruni involved with some rock star like Mick Jagger. I remember some scandal involving her.
