Should he be castrated or congratulated?

This incredible story is as follows:

Last December (2009) the French national health authorities became suspicious when an immigrant from the African country of Senegal became a father yet again. As their records showed, for the past few years he has been very active in the love department having fathered five children. He was also greatly patriotic towards his old African continent because his girlfriends and the mothers of his offspring were all African women.

Without provoking the suspicions of the great love machine, the Securité Sociale (France’s national health authority) decided to look into his over-active libido.

On Monday, August 31, the police turned up at his low-rent government-supplied (HLM) apartment. They had, in their discreet investigation, discovered that 50 couples were domiciled at that apartment. (Here in France we are all well-documented in the records of the Ministry of Interior, non-EU nationals having to obtain a residence permit to live here and a work permit to work here.)

The 50 males all had the same name – that of the great love machine.

Hardly could he, the great love machine, argue with the police, but he did have an explanation to give them. The 50 women were all his wives (he’s Muslim so he’s allowed more than one wife) and each of them had given him a child. Some – hallelujah! – had even given him more than one!

Maybe some of the police were watering at the mouth at such luck, but they arrested the man all the same in order to know where he was while they dug deeper into his life.

As they were to discover further, he had been drawing family allowances from the state of between €150 and €200 ($200/255 / £124/165) monthly for each child. Such generosity on the part of France had some months given him an income of €7500 ($9555 / £6185). Know that this is more than a civil servant earns. Know that half of France’s working population won’t earn that a month. Know that a journalist won’t earn that a month!

But did this man really father 55 children?

The answers seems to be: Give and take one or two or three, YES HE DID!

The police have identified 42 of the mothers. Of the 42, the police have traced seventeen. Of the 17, all but one, told the police that the Senegalese had indeed fathered her child. The odd one out said that she had paid the man money to declare her child as his so that she, at that time an illegal immigrant, could remain living in France.

DNA tests are now being carried out on the 17 children. When the other women are found, DNA tests will be carried out on their children too. Of course, some of them, having been illegal immigrants too, might not be found.

So what has happened to the s.o.b.?

He faces the charge of defrauding the French state, making fraudulent declarations of parentage, and trafficking in obtaining residence permits for illegal immigrants. He will probably be deported to Senegal after he has served his sentence (it will be a suspended sentence and a fine) because a new law here stipulates that any foreigner who breaks France’s laws will be deported after the sentence has been served.

He has not been jailed though.

No, he is free to father more children.

And I, like every other tax payer in France, will continue to pay for the children of such people to be (1) brought into the world free of charge and (2) to be educated free of charge.

Reports like this of abuse of government assistance angers me to such a degree that I have no words to truly express what I’m feeling.
The system needs to be completely rehauled to install tighter controls, but I’m sure, that any mention of that would inspire some sort of strike action anyway.

France is not alone. We have all kinds of immigrants – such as the boatload which recently arrived – who all get assistance from our tax dollars.
