Today is Good Friday. This day is a bank (public) holiday in many Christian countries .

This is the day, as legend or history has it, that the young man named Jesus of Nazareth was crucified.

There are different explanations now of why he was crucified and by whom.

Was it because he had called himself ‘King of the Jews’, or perhaps because he had claimed that he was ‘The Son of God’?

Whichever … I won’t go into that now because the purpose of this post to my website is that I want to show you this photograph.

I took this photograph a few days ago. I am not going to tell you where I had taken it, but I will say that it was not in Paris (where I live), but in a town just outside Paris.  I will also say that it lies in the garden of a centuries-old Christian chapel which is no longer a place of worship, but these days serves as an exhibition hall.

There in the garden lie two smashed statues of the Virgin Mary and a Holy Water Font.  The four hands on the statues had been broken off and are missing.

By the look of it these two statues did not once stand here, but had stood elsewhere and had been dumped here, either before or after they had been smashed.

When I saw this, and took this photo, I thought that no wonder a certain group of people have turned our world into a killing field.

These two smashed and discarded statues of the Mother of Jesus the Christ is symbolic of what the world has become.

It no longer has values.

Had I a car with me, I would have picked these two smashed Virgin Marys and the smashed font  up and I would have brought it home and I would have put them in my apartment to return some degree of dignity to them. Of course, had I done so and had I been seen to do so, the police would have been called and II would have been arrested and charged with theft.

Time we get our priorities right!

Teraisa, Yes, that’s a fitting thought about fingerprints. I suppose the hands must have been so cute that someone had found them irresistible.

Rude! What is wrong with people? Hope your Easter is good; thank you for sharing. BTW-you know I write and read about crime too much because my first thought was: they took the hands so no one could get fingerprints.

In all seriousness, I’ll never understand why people destroy things that aren’t theirs. Especially graffiti, way too common to see it.

    I am shocked!!!!!
But at the same time I hope that many, many people read this article and see the photos. This is what our world has come to. Yes Marilyn, this is why we are not safe on our streets, inside our homes, in malls and just walking around. This is the reason why radical groups think they can kill and destroy.
However, thanks for making us aware of these horrendous things happening around us.

It’s pretty terrible isn’t it Marilyn. I cannot imagine people wanting to do such things although we all know of a group which does smash or tear down anything it can.

    Hope you enjoy your Easter.
