Mrs Helene Pastor, brutally shot down

Money makes the world go round, it is said.

Money also turns people into murderers: those not having it, wanting it. And murdering to have it.

This case  – the fatal shooting of Monaco billionaires, Hélène Pastor, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 – is such a case.

I reported the shooting in detail and I highly recommend that you read my report before you read this posting.

Mrs Pastor, 77, head of the Pastor dynasty, Monaco’s wealthiest family – even wealthier than the Monaco Principality’s ruling Grimaldi family – had visited her son Gildo in L’Archet Hospital in the French Riviera city of Nice, close to Monaco, when having returned to her car, parked outside the hospital, her chauffeur/majordomo Mohamed Darwich, 64, sitting behind the wheel, and having sat down beside him, a man in black walked up to the car and fired twice through the front righthand-side window with a sawed-off shotgun. (The car was a left-hand drive, so Mrs Pastor was sitting at the front right-hand window beside the driver.)

Mrs Pastor and Mohamed Darwich slumped forward, both hit, but both still alive. The shots and the shouts and screams of onlookers, having pbeen heard in the hospital, medical staff were at the car within minutes and with the two victims.

The chauffeur/majordomo was to succumb to his wounds four days later.

Mrs Pastor would die 15 days later on May 21.

Police had questioned both, but neither could supply any information about who had shot them.  Madame Pastor told police that she had no idea who would want her dead. She had though told the police that she was frightened.  “I have things to tell you,” she had added.    The woman had unfortunately died before she could do so.

Monday, September 17 (today) – 2018 – several people go on trial for the murder of Mrs Pastor and Mr Darwich in the Supreme Court of the French town of Aix-en-Provence where all major criminal cases for that area of France are heard.

On trial are:

Samine Aid Ahmed, 28, the shooter;

 Al Hair Hamadi, 35, the look-out man who had arrived at the murder scene with Hamadi and had fled with him and went into hiding with him;

 Pascal Dauriac, 49, Mrs Pastor’s fitness coach who had recruited the killers;

Abdelkader Belkhatir, 35, Dauriac’s brother-in-law;

Salim Youssouf. 29, at the time of the shooting a gendarme (militarised policeman), who had supplied the sawed-off shotgun;

Omer Lehore, 28, friend of Dauriac who had recruited the shooter after Youssouf had refused to be the killer, but had all the same supplied the shotgun.

And last but not least:   In fact, the main suspect, one Wojciech Janowski.

(In France, like in all civilised countries, one is regarded as innocent until proven guilty.)

Who is Wojciech Janowski?

He is the 69-year old Polish-born companion of Mrs Pastor’s daughter Miss Sylvia Ratkowski-Pastor, 57, and the father of her 21-year-old daughter.

At the time of the shooting Janowski, known as a businessman, was also Poland’s Honorary Consul to Monaco.

He wanted to make Sylvia his wife, but she had refused to marry him, and this she had done for the 28 years that they were together.

What is being given as Janowski’s motive for wanting his lover’s mother dead?

The answer: Money.

Prosecutors believe that with Mrs Pastor dead, her two children – Sylvia and her brother Gildo – would inherit her billions. So they would have.

And Mrs Pastor dead, he, Janowski, would have money. All the money he could ever wish for.

 The trial is scheduled to continue until Friday, October 19, and Sylvia is scheduled to be called to give evidence on Friday, September 21.

Janowski, who had initially confessed to having planned the shooting of Mrs Pastor, has since withdrawn his confession. Yes, he now promises that he will reply truthfully to every question.

I wrote about the case here on this website too:
