For the first half of this year of 2018 17,1 million tourists have come to Paris and the Ile de France (Paris region).

Paris, since the end of WW2, having, each year, received more visitors than any other city in the world, has never ever had such a tourist boom.

Tell it to us who live here.

Indeed!

We can’t get into Paris’s museums, can’t get to see exhibitions, can’t get into chateaux like Versailles and Fontainebleau, and all because of long queues outside. I mean long: at least two hours of waiting outside.

And what is worse, our Metro trains and buses and suburban trains are forever packed.

But, while we can’t take it anymore, the Paris authorities and hotel keepers and bistro and bar and restaurant owners are delighted.

They have big smiles as they make their way to the banks because – wait for it! – these millions of tourists have spent 10,3 billion euros here in Paris and the Ile de France during just the first half of this year.

You will understand the smiling faces when I tell you that in the first half of 2017 the tourists had spent just 23 Million euros.

Of these millions of tourists in the first half of this year, 4,760,000 had gone into the Louvre, and 3,708,418 to Versailles.

The prediction now is that this year of 2018, Paris and the Ile de France (note not France but only Paris) will receive 50 million tourists.

Of course, those who are smiling do not have to use public transport as they are chauffeured in official vehicles, not even having to stop at a red light, and they do not have to go queue outside museums or chateaux but are taken in after-hours to enjoy the exhibits all on their own.

What I would like to know is whether the tourists like the French a little more now, because once, not so many years ago, it was said that there was just one thing wrong with Paris – the French lived there!
